Isabel Moura & Tome Simms, 24, Rio de Janeiro, New York City and Toronto
Bromelia Experimental was born in New York by two recent graduates in the Architectural Design program at Parsons, The New School for Design. It is now based in New York, Rio de Janeiro, and Canada.
Bromelia strives for freedom from conventional design expectations and traditional language while exploring new ways of experiencing space and form.
The bromeliad plant, which manifests in multiple forms, is representative of the project’s aesthetic. It is beautiful, yet shocking, strong, and organic, but not fragile.
The profits from this project will go towards funding a trip to rural Brazil in order to learn traditional weaving and embroidery techniques from local artisans.
